According to the Brigadier it is described as follows:
Mojacar Hash House Harriers. Andalucia Southern Spain. Sunshine annual Hash 1st or 2nd week before Easter. Get away from Uk rainy skies, freezing fog etc. Sat and Sunday runs through dry river beds and irate farmers donkey yards. Wine stops. Stragglers run Tues. with brandy stops, beer or wine down downs. Yummy. Hash bar el Gordinos la Sarten. [dedicated] Hash Hotels: Mama Bells Hotel, world famous posers hangout and El Hostal Arco Plaza, nice place, fronting the square, and with hot and cold running bar maids. Most exclusive hash on the planet, all extroverts welcome.
Ambient temperature March 19-20 degrees centigrade. Make a week of it and visit Granada, Sevilla and nearby Cabo de Gato, world famous desert bird reserve (feathered type) all in the sunshine (and maybe the Sirocco) State of Andalucia. Smell the oranges and lemons on the trees and the Mahou in Gordon's Bar.
What we did on Saturday 29th April 2006
Some photos from the 2006 gathering again courtesy of Dave the Rave and Paparazzi
Some excellent photos from last year's (2005) hooly - courtesy of Dave the Rave and Denise (who took the good ones!)
El Brigadiero's extremely hazy recollections from this years bash. Hopefully we'll get something a bit more coherent up here soon! Unfortunately, Lightning's recollections are almost incoherent so most hashers should understand them.
2001 Founders run, Plods archival offering.
Hazy recollections from 2004 Mojacar trip There are some pics attached as well!
Cost will usually be about £35 for the 'weekend' before the end of January. This will cover beer or wine at both runs, lunches at 1pm somewhere and the curry at La Sarten (Gordon's) at about 9pm, and some snacks. There is a reduction of £10 for non drinkers and children under 4 are free. Also special rates for one-day wonders. Registration at Gordon's Bar at 1700 hrs on Sunday.
Never believe what it says about the costs because great White Hope has an in built inflation monitor so it is usually twice as much as advertised!
Registration form - print this off and send with cheques, payable to "Mike Smith", to the Great White Hope, 20 Hillside Close, Ellington, Huntington, Cambs. PE18 0AR. E.mail mikegsmith123@lycos.co.uk if you have any queries.
Mojacar accommodation:
Lead hotel last year was The Esquinica Hostal: Postal address - Esquinica Hostal, 04638 Mojacar (Almeria), Spain. Tel: (0034) 950 475 009 - best at around (UK) lunchtime - there is an English speaking manageress. Single rooms 15 Euros, Doubles about 20 Euros. Basic, bed-only hostal. Bathrooms on landing. Bar. Roof terrace with tables and chairs. Unfortunately, the Esquinica has closed down! Let's hope it re-opens soon. Lunch on the run day being served here and within easy staggering distance of Gordon's.
The Arco Plaza - Hotel Arco Plaza fronting main square. Tel /Fax [0034] 950 472 717 for the attention of Snr. Jose Manuel Padilla. They reputedly speak English, a fax may be best. All rooms are en-suite and costs are 25eu single, 32eu double, a very good price - but last year's.
The El Torreon guest house is within staggering distance of Gordons, and charge 36 eu double. Tel 950 475 259.
Hotel Restaurante Mamabels is also close to the main square. Tel/Fax 950 472 448. Prices are between 60 and 70 eus. Check out the accomodation on the new Mamabels website which also
includes a useful map of the area.
Contact: Email hotel@mamabels.com.
La Secretaria, Noreen (Posh) Caine is co-ordinating bookings so have a word with her, at least keep her acquainted with your arrangements. Tel 01223 314645. email: noreen.caine@btinternet.com
This obviously depends on where you're coming from! From the UK the following may help.
Nearest airport is Almeria which is served by MyTravelLite.com from Birmingham Airport; latest costs are £87.61 return. And EasyJet from Stanstead.
Alternatives are Alicante and Malaga which are well served by EasyJet, return to Malaga from Stanstead is £60.98. Of course, all these prices fluctuate and are instantly out of date - check the relevant web sites because it can be much cheaper!
Of course, if you want to be really clever and combine Malaga Hash with Mojacar then you could fly to Malaga from Stanstead on EasyJet (£33) and fly back from Almeria with MyTravelLite.com to Birmingham (£33). But then you are stuck in Birmingham! An option here is to hire a mini-bus. Groups of 6 or more are cost effective - Names to Posh, please
Other options are: Air Berlin out of Stanstead (allegedly!) or BMIBaby.com out of Birmingham. There are bound to be other ways of getting there as well.
Alicante is an easy, 2 to 2.5 hours drive on good roads. Malaga is 2.5 to 3 hours drive. Car hire is a cheap and practical option and a good choice is available at each airport, again a mini-bus would also prove cheap if there are enough of you. Also pickup available with Harrys panzer wagen, groups of 5 people and luggage 20 eu each from Alicante or Murcia, 15 eus each from Almeria airport. Group names to Brigadier. Drinks stop at own expense.
